Curatorial Statement

Transposition is a group exhibition curated by Jonathan Riles and Joey Wallace. The show features the works of 9 Master of Fine Arts candidates at the Columbus College of Art & Design.

In most instances, artwork begins with an isolated idea. As our studio practices have evolved within our MFA experiences, we have discovered that the art medium framework in which our ideas originate have steadily become anything except isolated, but rather more broad.

As activists, the landscape in which our work lies in conversation with is always changing, and embodies a sense of present urgency. As a cohort, we met together and decided to showcase the evolving trajectory in our work within CCAD’s newest exhibition space, Design Studios on Broad’s Byers Gallery.

The idea of transposing individual ideas into a group show is always challenging, especially with a collective whose medium and content interests stretch across the interdisciplinary art spectrum. Regardless, this show stands as an artist-forged pathway that welcomes the intersectionsal network of isolated intentions, transposed into a wider statement of global revelation.
